Resource overview

Below are resources I have created for student and teacher use: the Historical Research Resource Guide, NHDWebCentral Supplemental Handbook, a one-pager created for judges on features of WebCentral, and databases of projects submitted to NHD Philly and NHD in PA contests, respectively, in 2023.

Note: resources are linked through their title text, rather than through their image.

These guides are supplements to resources published by the national office intended to assist NHD students and teachers in the creation of their projects. They do not contain official guidance, nor do they represent the official position or opinions of National History Day, Inc., or any of its affiliates.

This guide contains over 250 freely accessible history research resources, including 75+ general resources, and roughly 175 that are in topic-specific sections. Its focus is on primarily modern American history, and links are current as of August 2022.

This handbook is intended as a guide for the aspects of NHDWebCentral not covered in NHD’s existing instructional content. It includes tutorials for the essential parts of a website and for design elements that make a website more user-friendly and engaging. Video tutorials are linked within the guide.

This resource is a database of the approximately 350 student projects submitted to the 2023 NHD in PA contest. It includes foundational information on each project, as well as every project attachment and process paper available. I will be adding selected sources from the bibliographies of paper, documentary, and website projects throughout the fall. Exhibit photos were taken by Sergeant Smith during the contest weekend. Note: I included information for projects that were not presented at the state contest due to student absence, as well as for performances, which were not recorded.

This database provides foundational information on the roughly 60 projects submitted to the NHD Philly contest in 2023, plus all accessible project attachments and process papers. It also contains selected sources chosen from each bibliography.

This one-pager details features and capabilities of NHDWebCentral, the web design program used for all website projects since the 2020-2021 contest year. It has been shared with judges at both the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania contests. Note: capabilities may change as WebCentral is updated, but this sheet is current as of the 2022-2023 school year.
